One Direction & Spice Girls Perform at Olympics Closing Ceremony

For any of you out there that missed this year's closing ceremony, a number of stand-out performers of all ages helped close out the 2012 Olympic Games in London last night. With the night packed full of amazing performances that included the boys of One Direction, reunions by the Spice Girls and the Who, it is clear that the show pulled out all the stops. One Direction kicked off their performance in style, riding in on a flatbed truck as they drove along the Union-Jack shaped roadway. The five guys took on What Makes You Beautiful for the show. Meanwhile, the much older Spice Girls followed suit and also entertained the crowd with their motorized entrance --- with each of the girls atop their very own personalized light-up cars that represented their respective personalities. Fans of the group were probably pretty stoked to see them take on Spice Up Your Life and Wannabe. So out of all of the performances for the closing ceremony -- keep in mind there were also songs by Oasis, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Pet Shop Boys and more - which song is your guy's favorite? Let us know in the comments below

Serena Williams beats Maria Sharapova to win gold medal
Serena Williams says she finds the Olympics at Wimbledon relaxing because of the festive atmosphere, and her matches have certainly been nothing to tense up about.
Williams won another blowout Friday, this time against the world's No. 1-ranked player, beating Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 6-2. Williams clinched the first singles medal of her career, and she'll play first-time Olympian Maria Sharapova in the final Saturday.
"I'm just enjoying myself," Williams said. "It's just a great vibe to have the USA fans and all the other countries' fans that come out and root really, really hard. It's an unbelievable experience."
Through five rounds, the No. 4-seeded Williams has lost only 16 games. She had 16 aces against Azarenka and just five unforced errors to beat a player ranked No. 1 for the 14th time.
"When you're playing the best player in the world, you've got to play well," Williams said. "I felt like I had nothing to lose — just going for it."
Sharapova, seeded No. 3, won an all-Russian semifinal against No. 14 Maria Kirilenko, 6-2, 6-3. Sharapova had a 35-7 advantage in winners but still had to rally in the second set, sweeping the final four games.
"Obviously it's tough to play a Russian on the other side of the net, but I'm happy that one of us can go for gold," Sharapova said. "It's incredible, not only to be a part of this event and be an Olympian, but to put yourself in with an opportunity to go for gold. It's a really nice feeling."
Williams or Sharapova will become just the second woman to complete a career golden Grand Slam, something achieved only by Steffi Graf, who did it by winning the Olympics in 1988.
Sharapova has won each major title once and completed a career Grand Slam by winning the French Open in June.
"Baby steps, I guess," Sharapova said. "It's been amazing to achieve what I have achieved. Obviously growing up you have big dreams and hopes of winning your certain favorite tournaments. I've been fortunate to win all the Grand Slams, and obviously this is my first Olympics, so I'm just thrilled to be in the final."
If Sharapova wins, she'll regain the No. 1 ranking from Azarenka.
Williams has won 14 Grand Slam singles championships, the most of any active woman, including her fifth Wimbledon title a month ago. But this week has been different from Wimbledon, she said.
"I'm way more relaxed this time around," she said. "Something about this tournament is just making me play well, maybe because it's not what I worked for my whole life, like to get a Grand Slam. I'm not, like, stressed out — 'This could be it, No. 14 or No. 15.' I feel like whether I get a medal or not, I'm happy."
Williams seeks her third gold medal. She teamed with her sister Venus to win the gold in doubles in 2000 and 2008. They play in the semifinals Saturday.
In singles, Serena has won 33 of her past 34 matches, and she has won 12 in a row against top-five players. She's 8-2 against Sharapova, including wins in their past seven meetings.
Azarenka will play Kirilenko for the bronze Saturday. [endtext]

Gabby Douglas Wins Gold & Lands Role on "The Vampire Diaries?
Gabby Douglas had the entire world watching as she became the third American woman in a row to win the individual all-around gold medal in gymnastics. And when I say the whole world, I'm definitely including the entire cast and crew of the CW's hit show 'The Vampire Diaires.' Ian Somerhalder, Michael Trevino, Candice Accola and even the show's executive producer Julie Plec, tweeted out in support of Gabby. Following her HUGE gold-medal win, Gabby hit twitter to thank all of her fans, including her TVD-supporters, hinting at the face that she'd love to do guest appearance. Julie Plec quickly responded saying QUOTE: "You let us know when you're free and we'll see what we can do!" So it sounds like an acting career or at the very least a cameo could be in Gabby's future. The 16 year old, who has the nickname "the flying squirrel," extraordinary Olympic performance puts in her in same club as gymnastic icons Carly Patterson and Nastia Liukin, and in addition, Gabby made history becoming the first 1st African American to ever win the all-around Olympic title. Share your congratulations with the gold medalist in the comments section and while you're there also let us know what role you'd like to see her play on "The Vampire Diaries." McKayla Maroney Vault Leads U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team to Gold

A near-perfect vault by McKayla Maroney was probably the biggest highlight of the U.S. women's gymnastics team's Olympic gold medal win last night - even if the judges inexplicably docked her a quarter of a point.

McKayla, 16, nailed the vault, showcasing the Amanar - a tricky, near-impossible skill that just a handful of gymnasts in the world can do - with such precision, her coach couldn't believe her score wasn't the maximum.

"It. Was. The. Best. Vault. Ever," Marta Karolyi said.

Watch below and you'll see, it's hard to argue that:

You'll have another chance to watch McKayla Maroney go for gold this week in the individual vault event. Don't be surprised to see her post a 16.5 then.

Paul McCartney Paid $1 for Olympics Opening Ceremony Performance

Paul McCartney paid an insane amount for his London Olympics Opening Ceremony performance! Hey music fans, welcome back to ClevverMusic. Being one of the most famous musicians in the world, you would expect Sir Paul McCartney to earn the big bucks for his 2012 Olympic Performance. Hence, we stand corrected.

The former Beatles's paycheck rolled in at a staggering $1.57 cents according to a spokesman for the Summer Games. The rep said, "All of our top talent played for free. In order to have a contract you commit to a payment of a pound." A pound = 1.57 in US dollars. We wonder what he'll buy with that lump sum!

The nominal fee was offered to make the Olympics contracts binding, and the musician actually volunteered his time to Danny Boyle's Opening Ceremony show. We admire Paul for donating his time and energy to the games, along with the other performers at the ceremony.
